Natali Medvedieva is a Ukrainian artist living and working in Lviv. Her practice focuses on handmade cast paper, graphic art, texture, and the transformation of material into memory.
Biography
Natali Medvedieva is a Ukrainian artist living and working in Lviv. She studied book graphics at the Ukrainian Academy of Printing, where she first encountered handmade paper — a material that has since become central to her artistic practice.
Today, Natali works primarily with handmade cast paper, developing her own approach to this technique and exploring paper as a tactile, sculptural, and expressive material.
In 2026, together with a curator and a group of like-minded individuals, she co-founded Lviv's first conceptual art gallery. The gallery opened with a group exhibition of its founders' works.
Artist Statement
My artistic practice explores the moment when matter begins to speak as memory. I work with the body, surface, texture, and symbol, approaching them as forms of presence. At the core of my work is the relationship between the corporeal and the archaic. The female body, the face, the animal image, a line, or a fragment of form appear as traces of experience — inner imprints emerging through the material. I am interested in what remains after an encounter with reality: touch, tension, silence, and bodily memory. In my practice, handmade cast paper is not merely a surface, but an active body within the work. Its irregularity, porosity, fragility, and wholeness become a language through which experience is held and transformed. In painting, I continue this exploration through layers of colour, transparency, and the emergence of the image at the threshold of visibility. My works turn to primal forms — the body, the earth, the animal, the face, the gesture. Through them, the personal shifts into the archetypal; intimate experience becomes a sign, and material becomes a space of memory, silence, and inner presence.
